Pro tempore

Want to publish your work?

We are pleased to announce that the Call for Papers for the 2022/2023 issue of “Pro Tempore” is now open. This year’s issue will accept papers which deal with Body and Emotions and pertain to history and related disciplines.

“Pro Tempore” is a journal run by students at the Department of History, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb. Our aim is to enable students of history and other related disciplines to publish articles and to help them gain experience in editorial work. Furthermore, our goal is to extend knowledge on topics related to history and to acquaint authors and readers with current trends in historiography.

This year’s topic is open to researchers who deal with all historical periods. We will consider papers on topics related to the body and physicality, e.g. disease, pandemics, death, sexuality, gender, race etc. Since the body can be interpreted as a biological constant, but also as a phenomenon that is culturally and historically conditioned and variable, we will welcome theoretical works that are based on the concept of embodiment and question the way of understanding one’s own bodily experience and bodily functions, representations and practices in different historical contexts. Papers which deal with emotions – their symbolic representation in different types of historical sources; the ways in which emotions affect (self-)understanding, as well as the ways in which they influence the actions of historical figures and ideological, political, social and cultural changes as a whole – will also be accepted. This year, our aim is to encourage authors to adopt an interdisciplinary approach and to instil a dialogue with related disciplines such as anthropology, philosophy, ethnology, comparative literature, sociology etc.

The editorial board will consider all types of research papers, as well as reviews, translations, interviews, and reports from conferences and round tables, provided that they fit the given topic. All submitted papers will undergo a selection process. Papers accepted for publication will be reviewed by professors.

Submitted papers may have two authors. The journal only accepts works that hadn’t been previously published. By submitting their works, authors accept full moral and scientific responsibility for opinions expressed therein. All papers should be submitted in the Microsoft Word format (.doc or .docx) and sent to the following e-mail address: The submission deadline is May 15, 2023.
