CALL FOR PAPERS FOR THE 19TH ISSUE OF “PRO TEMPORE” STUDENT JOURNAL

We are pleased to announce that the Call for Papers for the 2023/2024 issue of Pro Tempore is now open. This year’s issue will accept papers that deal with Intellectual history and pertain to history and related disciplines.

Pro Tempore is a journal run by students at the Department of History, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb. Our aim is to enable students of history and other related disciplines to publish articles and gain experience in editorial work. Furthermore, our goal is to extend knowledge on topics related to history and to acquaint authors and readers with current trends in historiography.

This year’s topic is open to researchers who deal with any historical period.

Provided that almost every human action is motivated by thoughts, it is never exclusively political, economic, philosophical, or theological, therefore an interdisciplinary character of intellectual history makes it always current and ubiquitous. Either indirectly through research in different historical subdisciplines or directly through practicing intellectual history as an independent subdiscipline. This year we are looking for papers that deal with the history of intellectual thought, intellectual action, and intellectuals as their creators, sharers, advocates or critics, and relevant social actors. Research may deal with different topics relating to the history of concepts, discourses, or phenomena, like the concept of freedom, anti-urban discourse, or cultural and intellectual phenomena of fin de siècle. It can be about various political, social, economic, and cultural doctrines, courses, and practices such as nationalism, capitalism, mercantilism, baroque, and so on. We also welcome papers about intellectuals, especially intellectual groups, and networks, which are concerned with their role in the process of transmission of ideas, creating public opinion, and their social and political engagement. You can research the mobilizing effect of certain ideas and ideologies, changes and revolutions caused by scientific progress or ideological turmoil, intellectual transfers and reception of ideas, translation of ideas, etc. Following that, we also accept papers dealing with the history of books, publishing, science, the culture of reading and writing, education, cultural politics, and the history of historiography.

The editorial board will consider all types of research papers, as well as reviews, translations, interviews, and reports from conferences and round tables if they fit the given topic. All submitted papers will undergo a selection process. Papers accepted for publication will be reviewed by professors.

Submitted papers may have two authors. The journal only accepts works that haven’t been previously published. By submitting their works, authors accept full moral and scientific responsibility for opinions expressed therein. All papers should be submitted in Microsoft Word format (.doc or .docx) and sent to the following e-mail address: casopis.protempore@gmail.com. The submission deadline is May 1st, 2024.

Papers should be written in Croatian or English. The journal also accepts papers in Serbian, Bosnian, and Montenegrin. All submitted papers must be written in Latin characters. Papers may be no longer than 35 pages. The text must be justified, written in the Times New Roman font, 12 pt. The spacing must be adjusted to 1.5. The first and last names of the author(s), their degree of study, and their academic institution should be listed on the first page in the upper-left corner. Papers must also contain an abstract (ca. 100 words) and keywords in Croatian and English, as well as a list of sources. Footnotes must be added at the end of the page and formatted according to the Chicago Manual of Style. They need to be listed in numerical order and separated from the main body of the text by the footnote separator. Footnotes should be justified, written in Times New Roman font, 10 pt., and the spacing must be adjusted to 1.0. Papers must include a bibliography at the end. The bibliography also needs to be formatted according to the Chicago Manual of Style.
