STUDENT CONFERENCES

With the support of the History Department of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb, the editorial board of the student journal Pro Tempore has decided to hold a student conference this year. Everyone who is interested is invited to present their work. This year’s main topic, Body and Emotions, offers students of various majors an opportunity to participate, thus encouraging them to cooperate and exchange different ideas. Our aim is to give everyone a chance to learn more and improve their academic skills.

The conference will be held on April 20, 2023 at 10 a.m. in the Council Hall of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb. This year’s topic is open to those who study all historical periods and, considering that the research of body and emotions is necessarily interdisciplinary, to those who study these phenomena within the framework of related academic disciplines such as anthropology, philosophy, ethnology, comparative literature, sociology, psychoanalysis etc.

Presentations which will be included need to be related to the topics of the body and physical experience (disease, pandemics, death, sexuality, gender, race, beauty and similar phenomena in certain historical periods). We will also accept works that analyse the ways in which emotions are dealt with in different types of historical sources, the influence of emotions on the actions of important historical figures and their treatment, control and understanding in different historical, political, civilizational and cultural contexts.

The body and emotions can be defined as biological constants, but also, according to social constructivists, as culturally and historically determined phenomena. Therefore, we encourage you to submit presentations which approach this subject from different theoretical perspectives (applied to history).

Please state your name and surname, level of education and a short summary of your presentation in the application. The summary has to include a brief explanation of your topic (no more than 500 words). You may present in Croatian, Serbian, Bosnian, Montenegrin or English; your presentation may last no more than 20 minutes.

Applications must be sent to the email address casopis.protempore@gmail.com no later than March 31, 2023. The participants of the conference are encouraged to publish their conference reports in the 18th issue of the Pro Tempore student journal.
